Tell the Senate to give students the same low interest rates the big banks get
Sen. Elizabeth Warren has a great, simple idea, and she's made it her first bill. Give students the same loan rates that the big banks get:
"Right now, a big bank can get a loan through the Federal Reserve discount window at a rate of about 0.75%. But this summer a student who is trying to get a loan to go to college will pay almost 7%. In other words, the federal government is going to charge students interest rates that are nine times higher than the rates for the biggest banks–the same banks that destroyed millions of jobs and nearly broke this economy. That isn’t right."
Students should get as good a deal as the banks. They're the ones that are going to be responsible for rebuilding this country, and they shouldn't be saddled with crippling debt before they even get a chance to start doing that.
Please sign the petition urging your senators to cosponsor the Bank On Student Loan Fairness Act.
Please become a co-sponsor of the Bank on Student Loan Fairness Act, which would give students the same low interest on loans that banks receive.
At a minimum, students should get the same deal that the big banks that wrecked our economy. They're the ones that are going to be responsible for rebuilding this country, and they shouldn't be saddled with crippling debt before they even get a chance to start doing that.
