AMA: Oppose mandatory ultrasounds
State governments around the country are mandating unnecessary, unwanted, and invasive medical procedures on women who want to have an abortion. These unnecessary procedures are also expensive, and because they aren't medically necessary, will likely not be covered by insurance.
All doctors should be taking a stand against this. In fact, when doctors do take a stand, as the Pennsylvania Medical Society did, legislation mandating these procedures can be defeated.
Sign the petition to the American Medical Association. We will send them the signatures:
The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists guidelines say: "The use of either two-dimensional or three-dimensional ultrasonography only to view the fetus, obtain a picture of the fetus, or determine the fetal sex without a medical indication is inappropriate and contrary to responsible medical practice."
As such, please take a public stand against state governments mandating unnecessary, unwanted, and invasive trans-vaginal ultrasounds.
