Tell House Republicans: Don't take disaster relief hostage
Last year, House Republicans insisted that any increase in disaster aid spending should come from deep, 40% cuts to funds for equipping and training first responders. House Republicans nearly forced a government shutdown over disaster aid funding, and ultimately succeeded in making massive cuts to the program. They passed a $2.65 billion bill for the disaster relief fund when the average need for the average year is $12 billion.
In the wake of Superstorm Sandy, there may be another funding fight during the post-election lame duck session. Please sign our petition telling House Republicans that federal disaster funding should not be held hostage to force funding cuts elsewhere:
Do not use funding disaster cleanup efforts for Superstorm Sandy as an excuse to make cuts in other programs.
