Tell Congress: Put low-income families ahead of corporate welfare and oppose all cuts to food stamps
A bipartisan coalition is gearing up to slash foodstamps.
In May, the U.S. Senate voted down an amendment by Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) to restore $4.1 billion in food stamp cuts by reducing corporate welfare to a handful of crop insurance companies. Twenty-eight Senate Democrats joined with all voting Republicans to defeat this crucial amendment.
In the House, Republicans have decided to take food stamps out of the Farm Bill in hopes they can make far deeper cuts to foodstamps than even the cuts which passed by the Senate.
Given that so many people are working fewer hours or for lower wages, slashing food assistance will only makes things worse.
